Here, the ocean is always within sight, peacocks wander freely across the grounds and life moves at a softer rhythm.
This is not an hotel. It is a home away from home.
Monara takes its name from the Sinhalese word for peacock — a symbol of grace, presence, and quiet beauty. Like the bird itself, Monara exists in harmony with its surroundings.
Set along the southern coastline near Tangalle, the villa looks out over the wide curve of Mawella Bay. Sea breezes move through open spaces. Light shifts slowly across water and sky. Mornings begin with the sound of waves and evenings settle into stillness and the call of nature.

Located on the ground floor, it opens gently toward the sea, where mornings arrive slowly and evenings feel hushed. Like the moon it is named for, this suite offers seclusion and invites rest, reflection and deep, unbroken sleep. A space for those who value quiet luxury and relaxation, where time seems to move at a gentler pace.

Ganga and Makara form an inter-connected sanctuary, designed for togetherness reflecting the spirit of the sacred river – nurturing, protective and peaceful. Ideal for families, these 2 ground floor rooms flow naturally through the bathroom suite, which offers both a bath and separate shower area. This two-room suite is located next to the swimming pool and within easy reach of all our living spaces.

Varuna, named for the guardian of the seas, sits closest in spirit to the water it overlooks. The sound of the ocean is constant here, grounding, rhythmic and connected. With its own private balcony, Varuna is on the 2nd floor and enjoys panoramic views across the bay.

It is on the 2nd floor and has direct access to our Sunset Deck.

OUR LOCATION
Monara is located along Sri Lanka’s southern coast, near the quiet village of Seenimodara, just outside Tangalle. Well set back from the main road and perched on top of a ridge, the villa enjoys a peaceful seaside setting with open views of the Indian Ocean. The stunning beaches of Seenimodara and Mawella are known for their calm waters and unspoilt natural beauty. They offer year-round swimming and a sense of space and seclusion, whilst still remaining easily accessible.
